Tooth Extraction

While it is our primary goal to save your teeth, we know there may come a time when you may require tooth extraction and we will do everything we can to put you at ease.

Tooth extractions are necessary when you have advanced dental decay, a damaged tooth due to trauma, overcrowding before orthodontic treatment, or an impacted wisdom tooth.

A simple tooth extraction only takes a few minutes and is easily removed by the crown once the area is numb. A surgical extraction involves making a small incision in the gum to remove the tooth.

Your dentist will provide you with specific aftercare instructions based on your extraction. Typically, the dentist may recommend over-the-counter pain relievers and use of an ice pack to alleviate any discomfort and swelling.

For a blot clot to form and prevent a condition called dry socket, you cannot drink through a straw, spit or smoke for at least 24 hours.

Following your tooth extraction, and once the site heals, your dentist will discuss your tooth replacement options, if needed, to restore your smile to optimal health and function.
