Inlays and onlays are also known as indirect fillings or partial crowns and are typically recommended when more than half of the tooth’s biting surface is damaged.

An inlay is similar to a dental filling and is used inside the cusp tips of the tooth. An onlay extends over one or more cusps and is an excellent alternative to a dental crown in cases where the damage to a tooth is not extensive.

Inlays and onlays are bonded directly to the tooth using high-strength composite resins and can increase the strength of the tooth by as much as 75%.
